Achieving Fluency: My Top 3 Speaking Tips

1. Take Notes During Preparation Time

Before your speaking test begins, you’ll be given some time to prepare. I found that taking quick notes during this time helped me organize my thoughts. Jotting down a few key points or ideas helps me stay on track during the test, especially when I’m given a prompt I’m not fully familiar with. It also reduces the chances of rambling or losing my focus when it’s my turn to speak.

2. Use Simple but Effective Language

Sometimes, it's tempting to use advanced vocabulary to impress the examiner, but I’ve realized that clear and simple language can often be more effective. Avoid using complicated words unless you're certain of their meaning and pronunciation. Speaking in a straightforward, clear manner is better than trying to show off vocabulary and ending up with mistakes.

3. Expand Your Vocabulary

The more words you have in your vocabulary, the easier it becomes to express your ideas effectively. Reading books, watching English content, and noting down new words has been crucial for me. I try to use these new words in conversations to make my speech sound more varied and professional. This also helps when you’re discussing a range of topics in the exam and need to come up with words on the spot.
